Istanbul Oddkin by Mengqi Xu

Oddkin is invented by Danna Haraway. It is unexpected collaborations and combinations which situated someplace and not noplace, entangled and worldly. 

This is a ramp gallery project in the Historic district in Istanbul.

Functionally, it works as the parking ramp infrastructure but also as a lighting gallery. It is a place where artists exhibit their multimedia projects and the visitor to enjoy the lighting art by going to the small pedestrian ramp or the car ramp surrounding the gallery. Reinforced by the dark nature of the underground parking, with different lighting designs, it will experience a different atmosphere.

Aesthetically, this project is an oddkin hybridization situated in Istanbul. Study the character of the parking infrastructure like beam water pipe LED screen etc and understand their geometrical and aesthetic properties. This project hybridizes these mundane infrastructures with cultural elements like Islamic chandelier window frames etc to create a new architectural language.
