Vrlovka Cave Presentation Center by Vesna Šoić
The distinctive elongated form of the Vrlovka cave, situated in the immediate vicinity, served as the basic inspiration for the building layout in relation to the enriching landscape.
Symbolically, the compact volume of the interpretation center is being split by the cave contour into two separate volumes, thus transforming what in reality is framed space of the cave into an open space of walkway between two newly created volumes.
This concept offers visitors the opportunity to experience the cave ambience by two distinctive levels: firstly - by looking at the content by passing through the outer open space of walkway, and secondly, full-scale journey, by visiting the interior exhibition areas.
The center is mostly hidden below a green roof, thus keeping the focus mainly on the landscape; the only exceptions are the entrance hall, conference hall and belvedere tower, which like monolithic formations stand out of the landscape.
